OUR ROAD AND DRIVEWAY REQUIRE YOU TO RENT A 4×4 JEEP

Note that I said Jeep – not every 4×4 will do the trick, as it must be somewhat light weight and able to maneuver over bumpy uphill roads. I’ve also seen some little Suzuki’s riding around the island, so those may work as well. What won’t work? Clunky Ford Explorers (speaking from experience). You definitely need a Jeep.

It is essential to have a 4X4 Jeep on St. John.

We recommend renting from a company in St. John. If you prefer to rent on St. Thomas, that is fine too, and you can pick up your car right at the airport when you arrive. The pro to this is you won’t need to hire a taxi to take you to catch the ferry.

If you are not comfortable driving on the left side of the road then you can rely on taxis during your stay. Jeep rentals are still tricky to find, especially at the last minute. Therefore, be sure to book your jeep when you book the villa.

Driving around in your rental Jeep and exploring is a blast but sometimes you may opt to take a taxi to go out in the evenings. Here are three local options for a taxi: Kevin (340) 227-6566, Laz (340) 473-7766, or Aaron/Piper (340) 344-4234. They know where the St. John Great House is located at 15A-2-8 Rendezvous and Ditleff (Rendezvous Heights) which is next door to Deja View. We are right off of the Gifft Hill Road.
